Photographic Gallery brumbies from Kosciuszko National Park (warning)

Trigger Warning

Photos made available by photographers on an “anonymous basis” following the elevent months of aerial and ground shooting by National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) in Kosciuszko National Park (KNP). We thank brumby photographers, for their dedication to recording the lives of Heritage Brumbies in KNP.

The vast majority of photos bear witness to single and multiple gut shots, neck shots, leg shots, back shots, lactating mares in foal taking single gut shots and involuntarily aborting near term foals.

Were those foals dead at the time of shooting? Unlikely, it is more likely they will have fallen victim to predators who will have consumed both the foal and mare while alive.

The shooting of Brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park between October 2023 to October 2024 has been nothing less than a “carnage” of sentient creatures.

Destruction of many beautiful Brumbies who died a barbaric and cruel death. National Parks and Wildlife Services and the decisions made to proceed with this cruel lethal management when brumbies in KNP are protected by Legislation and science has laughed at the purported population numbers as being “false” and, in absence of a Count of Retention Zones.

The decision to continue shooting “until we reach 3,000 Brumbies” is ridiculous when the population counts are proven flawed.

We call for an immediate end to this barbaric cruelty to be replaced immediately with a population survey of the retention zones where the Government has decided 3,000 are to live, so as to comply with Legislation that recognises the Heritage value of the Brumbies in KNP and sets out how that value is to be protected by Legislation.
